Richard Southwell
Southwell [sɐðl], Sir Richard, 1888–1970, brittisk vetenskapsman, professor i ingenjörsvetenskap i Oxford 1929–42, rektor för Imperial College of Science and Technology i London 1942–48.
S. har gett viktiga bidrag till solidmekaniken, speciellt till numeriska metoder inom elasticitetsteorin. Han utvecklade bl.a. differensmetoden till vad som kallas relaxationsmetoden.
